Decluttering

Spring into Spring

Spring conjures up many thoughts…new beginnings and growth, changing seasons, transition and spring cleaning…

The phrase spring cleaning has come to mean more that just cleaning your house. It is a time of rebirth and renewal – a time to clear away the clutter in your mind and spirit as well as your home and office.

Clutter can be described as a side effect of consumerism and our desire to meet our inherent and perceived needs. Our homes, offices and bodies often act as a mirror to our emotional state. Often we over consume to satisfy our unmet needs. Understanding our needs allows us to choose different behaviours and adopt different mindsets.

Household clutter, obesity and mental health concerns are often linked together. In many cases, people are wobbling under the weight of more than one type of clutter.

Clutter and over-consumption takes its toll on your mental, emotional, physiological and spiritual wellbeing in a myriad of ways:

• Mental stress and frustration when you can’t find something or realise you are spending or hoarding for unresolved or unmet needs
• Emotional stress and guilt when clutter is tied to sentimental or expensive items
• Physical stress when you can’t clean or move easily about your home, difficulty in exercising or fitting into clothes
• Spiritually feeling burdened or weighted down by emotions and negative mindsets.

Just like any good habit, decluttering isn’t something you do once and it’s done. It needs to be part of your daily living.

Alison Pate combines her coaching and counselling skills with her keen insight and intuition to help people powerfully shift their mindsets and beliefs. She supports clients in holistically ‘decluttering’ their lives so they can show up as the best version of themselves.
